introducing phil ellena street

We bought a house today! It is a row home on Phil Ellena Street in Mt. Airy. Tomorrow is our 2 yearhouse-small.jpg anniversary and this was a momentous way to celebrate. It is always a little nerve-wracking to see a house once all the stuff is cleared out of it, but there were no scary surprises and we actually liked it more. All of the plans we have for it are going to make such a great difference.

After signing all of the closing papers, we put on work clothes and went to work on the lovely green carpeting. It was incredibly dusty and dirty but the floor underneath has great potential. There is even an inlaid pattern that goes around each of the rooms. Click here for before & afters.

acquiring stuff

chloe-on-table-small.jpgLast weekend David and I bought an old dining room table from a flea market around the corner from our apartment.  It was a beautiful day for shopping and a great deal.  The guy we bought the table from helped deliver it to our apartment as well.  Our friends Becca and Ben are moving and we bought a futon from them, so we are slowly getting major items to fill our new house.  It’s only a week until we close – after that, the craziness will begin in full force.  Here are a few pics…

We’ve joined the cartoon world of The Simpsons! Yesterday someone sent me a link to a site plugging the new Simpsons movie where you can make a Simpsons character: here. Fun ensued…

reunion in lancaster

davidjojiken-small.jpgWe were in Lancaster this weekend to see extended family and to celebrate Jasmine’s 20th birthday! One of the stars of the weekend was Joseph, cousin Lillian’s son (see picture). He is very adorable: crawling around, laughing and saying words like, “Baa” and “Hakuna”. It was fun to see everyone, especially since we’ll miss the reunion in August because we’ll be working on the house. I forgot the camera, so these pictures are borrowed from Uncle Jere and Cousin Daniel Zook. I hope that’s okay – you guys got some great shots!

soon to be new homeowners

This process has gone really quickly. Last week we made an offer on the “great deal” in Mt. Airy. They accepted! Yesterday was the home inspection and nothing scared us off. So if all goes well we will close on July 30 and move in on August 25! I think this will be a great house for us. It has a good amount of space and is definitely a fixer-upper. The street is pretty quiet with lots of trees and friendly people. Plus, we’ll be 5 minutes away from the train. We’ll definitely post pictures once we close and we’ll also contact people with our new address (but feel free to bug us if we’re too slow…)
